I’m the lead writer of Jedi - Survivor. I wish I could travel back in time and tell that to my six-year-old self. When I first saw Star Wars, I remember jumping on our couch proclaiming “I’m gonna be a Jedi!” But then I’d also have to tell him how much of my life I’d have to spend writing being rejected, and pretty soon my six-year-old self would be crying. Probably best that time machines remain fiction for now.
Really interesting read, thanks for writing this up!
Could I ask what your process was for writing spec scripts? Is it basically writing, for example, a quest for a specific game as though you were on the writing team for that game, or a conversation between established characters? And is this something you'd show to employers i.e. in the form of a portfolio?
Yeah, I'd use it as a portfolio piece, since it's really helpful to pick a big game that a lot of people have played (Like Telltale's Walking Dead, back in the day). It was an opportunity to demonstrate I could write in an established IP's voice.
this was extremely encouraging to read. thank you for sharing your journey
happy to, glad you enjoyed!
